Back to YWIH, Back to 2009 Nashville Convention

Do you know a young woman who loves to sing? And dance?
An amazing opportunity for the rising stars in your life awaits!

Announcing an International Young Women in Harmony Festival, two days of learning, music, and dance, free of charge, for all young women aged 25 and under!

Sweet Adelines International will kick up their heels for a rousing good time in Music City when thousands of four-part harmony singers and guests from around the world bring their unique style of music to the river port city of Nashville, Tennessee, October 20-24, 2009, for the 64th annual International Convention and Competition.

As a special feature of the convention, we are offering a two day festival on October 16-17, 2009, free of charge to100 junior high, high school and college age female performers (age 25 and under).

These young women can be your students, mentees, daughters, younger sisters, nieces or granddaughters. We are pleased to offer an outstanding opportunity to participate in rehearsals that are fun and full of learning as these young women are introduced to the exciting elements of the modern barbershop art form: singing four-part, accapella harmony while dancing with fully staged and costumed choreography.

Rehearsals will be during the afternoon on Friday, October 16th and all-day on Saturday, October 17th at Lipscomb University and culminate in an exciting chorus performance for more than 3,000 audience members on the International Stage of Harmony Classic at the Sommet Center on Tuesday evening, October 20, 2009. It’s going to be a fantastic show, which will be webcast live for viewers from all around the world to see!

The three songs chosen for this year’s YWIH Festival Chorus are Beatles classics: All My Loving, With a Little Help from My Friends, and When I’m Sixty-Four. Students who pre-register for the festival will receive a link to download the music and learning tracks for the three songs that they will perform. The music and learning tracks are free and an e-mail with the link to download them will be sent out the second week of August to those who have pre-registered. All performers are expected to practice the songs in advance and song should be memorized by October 16th.

Participants will also receive tickets to Harmony Classic and student rates are available for friends and classmates who wish to attend the show. (Other convention registration and housing will be the expense and responsibility of the individual.)

Festival clinicians are Nikki Blackmer, director of Sweet Adelines International chorus A cappela Joy barbershop chorus and visual specialist Melanie Wroe. It will be a busy, fun-filled festival with much to accomplish.

Registration is open to junior high, high school and college age singers (age 25 and under) and will continue until the four voice parts are balanced or until September 18. Invitations are being sent to all area junior highs, high schools and colleges in the Nashville Metro area.

Applications to participate must be returned by September 18 and will be accepted in the order received. We hope that you will encourage the young women in your life to participate in this awesome opportunity.
