February 5, 2009
To: Presidents / Team Leaders, Directors, CAL Members and Prospective Chapters
From: Karin L. Kinder, Region 23 CRC

With Nashville Bound coming in just a few weeks, we’re looking forward to everyone returning to Chattanooga for our annual Convention and Competition. It is very important for all, to carefully look over and relay this information to competing chorus and quartet members. Information from Nancy Field, CC and Natalie Allen, EVC has also been sent...please read everything!

Changes have been made this year in an effort to streamline the traffic pattern…there’s a new photographer in town…we’re starting earlier with the quartet competition…we are offering a larger selection on boxed lunches…just little changes that can make a big difference.

The entire Region 23 Convention Committee has been working very hard for each competitor that will cross the stage.

Our official Judging Panel will be:
Sound: Ozzi Mask; Annandale, VA, Region 14
Music: June Berg; South Barrington, IL, Region 22
Expression: Vickie Maybury; Centennial, CO, Region 8
Showmanship: Gina Kaiser; Clearwater, FL, Region 1
Panel Secretary: Gail Burke; Bradenton, FL, Region 9
June Berg will also serve as Panel Chair. FYI

HOSTESSES: The ladies from TuneTown Show Chorus are ready to lead you through the pattern. There are changes in the pattern this year...please let these ladies guide you through so that you can concentrate on your competition. Hostesses will be present throughout the pattern; there will not be individual hostesses for quartets or choruses. Also, please respect the wishes of our hostesses when asked to dispose of water bottles before leaving the hotel. There will be water available in the warm-up rooms at the auditorium.

TOTE BAGS: Tote bags will be provided for each competition (quartet and chorus) when you arrive in the lobby of the hotel. Please contain ALL ITEMS in ONE QUART SIZE Ziploc bag per person (your chorus/quartet must supply these bags). The tote bags will be collected when you enter the auditorium. Once off the stage and into the hall, you will receive the tote bags. Do not place water bottles in the tote bags.

INDIVIDUAL TICKETS: There will be no individual tickets sold by mail again this year; tickets are $35. Tickets for each section will be available at the box office at Memorial Auditorium one hour before the start of each performance.

TRANSPORTATION: For those competing, please check your pattern schedule for transportation information. Transportation information for quartet and directors’ walk-through will be given at the Thursday night briefing. Audience transportation will begin 1 hour prior to each event and run continuously; ending 1½ hours after the event has completed. Transportation schedules will be posted in the lobby area of the Marriott. Transportation will leave the hotel from the 11th Street entrance. Please follow the instructions of the hostesses who will be guiding you to the correct bus/van.

TRAVELING TROPHIES: If you are in possession of a traveling trophy, please bring this with you. It can be turned in with all forms on Thursday evening.

MAKE-UP: Remember to bring an old washcloth with you to remove your stage make-up after competition.

BOXED MEALS: Both breakfast and lunch will be offered by the Marriott for those “on the go.”

AFTERGLOW: Again this year, our convention will close with our Nashville Bound Afterglow. We’re holding this event in the ballroom of the Marriott Hotel. This will give all the chorus and quartets an opportunity to relax after the competition and allow for a more informal performance venue. Be sure to get your chorus/quartet signed up to sing on the list posted in the lobby area on Friday and Saturday. (Times for the newly crowned chorus and quartet champions will be pre-blocked on the schedule.) Each performer will be limited to two songs except the champion quartet and chorus who will celebrate their special night. Cash bars will be available.

HEART OF DIXIE SHOP: The shop will be set up in the Marriott Hotel this year (Lobby Level, directly across from the hotel gift shop). Be sure to visit the area and support our vendors.

The Convention Steering Committee is anxious for you to join us in Chattanooga for this celebration. It’s going to be a special time for all of us. If I can be of any assistance, please do not hesitate to email me! See you soon!
