| Eligible contestants: | Female quartets whose members reside or attend school in Tennessee, Alabama, Georgia, Mississippi, or the panhandle of Florida; and are aged 25 or under as of October 23, 2010. NOTE: $100 Vickie Wonders Foltz Grants to help with cost of travel/contest preparation, applications due 2/1/10 |
| Contest | Quartets will perform two songs in four-part barbershop-style harmony. Performances will be evaluated by judges in four categories – Sound, Music, Expression, and Showmanship. Contest rules parallel those of the Rising Star International Competition. For a copy of these rules or a competition registration packet, please contact Jennifer Cooke, Region 23 YWIH Coordinator (information below). |
| Competition | The contest will be held in conjunction with the Heart of Dixie Region #23 Regional Quartet and Chorus Competition. Each competing quartet and a chaperone will receive complimentary tickets to the competition sessions and the Saturday night afterglow; all travel and other accommodations are the responsibility of the competitors. |
| Awards | 1. First-place (champion) quartet will perform at the Saturday night afterglow show (March 20). 2. Champion quartet will have the opportunity to compete in the International Rising Star competition in Seattle, Washington, on Saturday, October 23, 2010. Region #23 will provide $400.00 towards this event. |
