What's your opinion about email vs wiki?

I use email all day long for business and person, and usually it's great. But sometimes, it's a nightmare! Suddenly, you have five different discussions going.... and then someone is left off....then another person jumps in but doesn't see the previous post...and you have to explain and retype and circle back.....then someone who was away from email for a couple comes back and needs to rehash a point you THOUGHT was resolved...aaaaarrrrghhhh! And that's just mechanics, forget about the misunderstanding and hostilities that can come out of this "shorthand" tool.

So, I'm dependent on email, but I think there's a better way for some types of communication. What do you think?

I get about 125 emails daily. I would be ok with a notification email to alert me that something important is on the wiki site that I need to attend to. OF course private conversations are just that and need to be separate from the site. I like having everything here. IT is easy to reference and things can be kept here, which keeps me from having to keep up with important emails and put them in little folders which i have named something to remind me of the content. : <> Do you find this valuable?

" I would be ok with a notification email to alert me that something important is on the wiki site that I need to attend to. "
Good point---if you go to MY PROFILE and EMAIL NOTIFICATIONS, you can select what activity on the wiki site creates and email to you (you might want to turn some of them off, too)...... and (my favorite) you can subscribe to a WEEKLY DIGEST fo the changes...so you can stay "tuned in" to the regional site once a week.

I enjoy the discission threads, which are so much easier to handle than group emails, when you may have 15-50 responses/comments from different people. On the wiki it is all there in one place, nothing to get lost, and you always know who said what when... wondering if there is a way to have "private" discussion threads, for say the regional team or (on chorus wikis) management teams/BODs...

also love having all important info and documents in one place, easing the necessity of folders and searching for things on your own computers.

computers."
The only way to be really private is to have a private (Password protected) site for the BOD or Music team or other group. But that's easy to do--literally can be set up in minutes....if a group is interested.

For me, It's easier to reply to email as opposed to going to the web site and then responding, but the Wiki is great for times when speed is not of the essence- like sharing comments, ideas, etc. I love the Wiki concept and hope our members will useit. Do you find this valuable?
