How long has YWIH been in place?

I'm curious--how old is the YWIH program? Do they (SAI) have any stats on how many young ladies later join as members of SAI?

I would imagine if one is given the taste of barbershop harmony so early, she'd be very likely to want to continue later in life (though school and babies and such can get in the way!). I know I wish I'd found it my teens or twenties rather than tail-end of the 30's! Do you find this valuable?
